Urban Sketchers Philippines Goes to Marikina

Last August 23, the Philippine Urban Sketchers went to the country's Shoe Capital, Marikina City, for our official monthly sketchwalk. Sta. Elena, one of the barangays of the city, is known for its heritage houses, making it a great place to explore and sketch. The meetup venue was the Kapitan Moy Ancestral House, but since the sun was too hot, the sketchers flocked to the side garden of the Our Lady of Abandoned Church right across Kapitan Moy instead. The garden was shaded by trees and had benches and tables, and it was also a good vantage point.

Milo Sudaria, a Filipino based in Singapore and one of the members of Urban Sketchers Singapore joined us and brought along copies of their book Show Me Manila! Milo along with USk-Singapore artists Lisa Huang Li-Shan, Ong Whee Teck, Tan Chit Seng, Ignatius Yeo, Tony Chua, and Edric Hsu came to Manila last April just to sketch, and compiled their works into this book. As a special treat, Milo also gave the group some very interesting items to raffle off: a book by Andrew Tan aka Drewscape, colored markers, paintbrushes, and fountain pens. The lucky draw winners were very happy and grateful for the treats!

Due to insistent demand by fellow sketchers, Milo also gave a calligraphy demonstration!

Time really flies when you're having fun. Soon, it was time for show & tell!

Sketching made us hungry, so the group headed to one of the city's famous eateries, Mama Chit's, for lunch. Burgers and chips galore!

Thank you Milo!

This September 20, we're heading to Bonifacio Global City for the Art Mart 7 at Bonifacio High Street. We will have a booth where we will be promoting the art of urban sketching and selling our works as well. It will also be our official monthly sketchwalk, so we hope to see you there!

Stay tuned for updates on the Art Mart! If you would like to sketch with us, join the Urban Sketchers Philippines Facebook group.
